There are certain moments in life that edify your beliefs and eradicate your doubts about
your path in life. As everyone else, I tend to question once a month if the dreams are worth the time, the sweat, the sleepless nights and for certain the money that goes with it. However, I always remember that this is what brings joy to my life. That there is no amount of money that could generate the amount of happiness that grabbing a pencil, pen, or typing on a keyboard brings me. To write down the ideas, or the worlds I dream of, and the characters that I can create, with so much freedom to invent whatever I desire. There is not much I can do about the readers liking my stories. But if I am in love with what I write, it is plenty for me.
For my last book fair, which was held in Mankato, MN I created a bio-board in which I stated some facts about myself, such as being born in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico. The board, to my surprise, grabbed the attention of more people than I thought it would. After a couple of hours, a lovely couple stopped by and read the snapshot of my life and they were charmingly surprised that I was born and raised in the city that they have been visiting every year for the past twenty-four-years. They have been visiting my city since I was ten years old. This alone makes me wonder if at some point our lives crossed paths in Mazatlán, and it is only until now that we get to know each other? Is there a purpose or a reason why things work the way they do? I am a timeless, stubborn romantic and I firmly believe that people cross paths for a reason and with a purpose. And they cemented this belief for good.
They weren’t the only people that stopped to read my bio-board to realize that the place they have chosen for vacation is also my birthplace.
The next couple had a similar story to the first one, with the only detail being that they have been going to Mazatlán for the past 7 years.
The next person was there in the 70’s, before I was born.
The next person was there on a vacation and unfortunately or very fortunate, his girlfriend broke up with him during their trip. He seems happily married now.
This couldn’t be a coincidence anymore. What are the odds that this many people, from a small town in Minnesota had visited and are still visiting the city I was born in before Mazatlán even became a bigger tourist destination?
I am taking this as a sign that I am on the right path, that the universe is trying to tell me that I am closer and closer to making my biggest of dreams come true.
I don’t look for signs, but sometimes signs slap you in the face to communicate with you that you cannot give up. That you must keep your dream alive. That we only live once, and that if we don’t do what we love most and make ourselves happy, we die way before we stop breathing.
Keep fighting for your dreams. I will never stop pursuing mine.
